I’ve updated the Faith in the City pub ministry site with locations for the next several weeks.
Tomorrow, the crew hits Zini’s in Deep Ellum (2639-C Elm St, Dallas, TX) at 7:30 pm. We’ll share pizza and conversation. From what I hear, the group will gather in the loft, so head on upstairs once you get there. There should be free parking in the neighborhood, but watch out for the pay spaces. They will boot your car.
The topic from Banned Questions about Jesus is this interesting one – “Did Jesus study other religions? Which ones?”
While I doubt Jesus took a comparative religious studies course in school, this question challenges us to look back at Jesus’ historic setting. What other religions were active? Did these influence Jesus in anyway? For example, Phil Snider points out that the presence and practice of Zoroastrianism in Jesus’ time. More significantly, it was the Roman Empire’s system of gods and emperor worship that Jesus no doubt had to respond to throughout his ministry.
Less likely, Jesus’ trip to India as detailed in the great book, Lamb.
Rev. Douglass Anne will lead the conversation tomorrow night, and she has some great insights to get things started.
See you then!
