Wholeness Group

Addiction & Grace by Gerald May

Tonight, we are organizing our first gathering of a new wholeness group here at the church. This is a new small group that is about encouraging participants on a journey to wholeness, especially a sense of spiritual health. It’s not a recovery group, but we expect to have some folks in the church and our neighborhood participate who struggle with addiction of various kinds, know family members and friends who have battled such challenges, or need a place of support and encouragement. We will read Gerald May’s Addiction and Grace together as food for thought and reflection. Everyone is welcome to join us for this first meeting at 6:30 PM in the Disciples Room.

Shoot me an email if you have questions.

Bingo!

Bingo!

On March 18 for lunch, the church is going to have a big bingo bash to raise money for our small team of folks who are going to Honduras this summer with the Church of the Incarnation. This effort is part of a plan that will eventually have us taking our own team to Honduras. Our folks going on this trip are continuing to learn about the process and get trained up so they can turn around and guide a trip on their own. We want to support them in this effort of partnership with the people of Honduras.

The Bingo Bash will be an opportunity to connect with other church members, have a lot of fun playing bingo, win some silly prizes, and support this important mission team as they prepare to do their work. It’s $5 for your meal (taco salad bar) and one bingo card. Additional bingo cards are available for additional donations. Oh, and if you want some delicious dessert, that’s an extra donation too! Haha! There might even be some special celebrity guests on hand.

Mark your calendars and plan on helping out!

Conversation at the Table

Here’s a flavor from our Lent series, Jesus as Mystic, as Nathan and Douglass Anne led more of a conversation than a typical sermon. Check it out. I think we cut the video at moments when there was some back and forth, because we didn’t have a mic on the crowd. Enjoy!

Fat Tuesday & the Pub

Tonight, our party-loving Faith in the City pub ministry crew will brave the Mardis Gras crowds to hit Dodie’s on lower Greenville (2129 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX). We hope you can join us. We’ll be talking, chatting, enjoying good food, and celebrating the last day before Lent. All are invited. Look for me or for the folks with a few Banned Questions about Jesus books. Our question of the night will be about Jesus’ first miracle in the Gospel of John – what did it mean that he turned water into wine? Does that mean it’s okay to drink?

Then tomorrow night, we’ll have our Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary at East Dallas Christian Church. Join us.

If you want more info on what Lent is, check out this fun Youtube video.

This Sunday

Here a few activities going on Sunday that you are invited to attend -

- New Member Fellowship – For our recent new members, please join our New Member Fellowship in the parlor at noon on Sunday. This is an informal time to eat, meet some of our church leaders, and find out more about our community. If you have questions, this is a great place to share those. We have a lot of new members recently, so please RSVP if you can come.

- Tour of the Community Center – Our East Dallas Community Center used to be an educational building for our church, but we converted it to house non-profits for low rent rates. It’s a beautiful space that now features the Housing Crisis Center, Child Abuse Prevention Center, Texas Women’s Credit Union, and others. On Sunday at noon, all members and guests are invited to get a quick tour of the space, starting by our Sanctuary. Our New Member Fellowship attendees will also be getting a quick tour. Just follow the flow of the crowd if you want to check this out.

Also, Amahl and the Night Visitors is going on throughout this week, and tickets are still available.

See you Sunday, if not before!
